WHEN WE WELCOMED Johan, our dachshund, into our lives, we never imagined the challenges that lay ahead. For the first year and a half, he seemed like a happy dog. But over time, he became increasingly unpredictable, struggling to handle interactions with children. He would lash out, not only growling and snapping but even biting. He attacked strangers, and even family members. He was also reactive towards other dogs and, at times, even himself. Everyday life became difficult.

DETERMINED to help Johan, we first sought professional help in the Netherlands. After several assessments, the recommended approach was medication, including antidepressants. We followed the advice, hoping it would ease his anxiety and aggression, but it had little to no effect. Johan remained reactive.

As his behavior worsened, several veterinarians gave us devastating advice — they suggested that euthanasia might be the best option. They believed Johan was too dangerous and that his aggression was unfixable. But deep down, we refused to accept that fate for him.

THAT'S WHEN WE FOUND ANTJE in Spain, and everything changed. Under her guidance, we phased out Johan’s medication, and to our surprise, he didn’t need it at all. With patience, consistency, and a completely new approach to training, Johan began to transform. Over months of intensive but incredible training, he grew into a calm, confident, and truly happy dog. His aggression faded, replaced by trust and understanding. He now listens attentively and no longer feels the need to lash out.

PERHAPS THE BIGGEST VICTORY of all is his newfound love for children. Where there was once fear and aggression, there is now playfulness and companionship. Johan has not only embraced the little ones in our lives, but again, thanks to Antje, he has also welcomed two new furry friends — adopted dogs who are now his inseparable companions.

LOOKING AT JOHAN TODAY, it’s hard to believe he was ever that fearful, reactive dog. His journey has been nothing short of incredible, and we couldn’t be prouder of the loving and well-balanced companion he has become.

Truly, Johan owes his life and happiness to Antje’s knowledge, patience, and dedicated behaviour therapy.

to Unstoppable Love

„Everywhere without a leash”

„I came to Antje being a chaotic and extremely chewy puppy. She showed me and my human mum how to become a relaxed, socialised and well behaving dog. Now I am so focused on what my humans ask me that I can go with them everywhere without a leash, which I like a lot because it maximises my freedom and joy. I am never aggressive towards other dogs on my walks, whenever I feel insecure I step away or go to my human for support. Antje also showed me how to make friends with Lexi the cat. I used to get overexcited and would chase him, but now I know better and we sleep and even play together. Thank you for teaching me how to be a good dog!!!” Louie living with Nina, Stephan and Lexi De Weerd Teulada

"My life changed."

My life is so much more relaxed ! Antje is a true life saver for both dogs and their owners. I have never seen anyone communicating with dogs so well. My Jack Russell is like a little angel when with Antje without losing her personality. We worked with her on our 2 dogs, both struggling with anxiety issues in their own way. I’ve learned so much  and the dogs'  behaviour have tremendously improved, my life is so much more relaxed now that I know how to react and how to handle them properly. Both the dogs and myself have a much more relaxed life now thanks to her. She takes the time, listens, reads the dogs and is always there to answer any question. I can’t thank her enough for everything that she’s done. So if you’re in need of help with your dogs, reach out to her and make sure to follow her advice!"

"Just like magic."

After Antje had worked her magic with Sill and Yup, they have been behaving much better. Not only the dogs have had a 'reset', so have we. The issue with misbehaving dogs isn't about the dogs themselves but simply because we misunderstand them. Antje knows how to give you those insights in a subtle manner, without making us feel attacked like we were doing a lot wrong. It made us feel open for all of the lessons she had to offer, in how we could optimise our communication with our dogs. We eagerly took that opportunity with both hands and reaped the benefits of all we could learn. Again, thank you so much Antje!!

„I can now take my dog anywhere"

I highly recommend Antje to anyone struggling with their dog’s behavior. Despite my experience as a dog handler, I was out of my depth with my adopted dog’s complex issues. Antje not only trained him but also gave me the tools and confidence to guide him. Thanks to her, I can now take my dog to places I never thought possible. The knowledge I achieved working with Antje and my own dog now also benefits the shelter dogs in APAD, where I volunteer.

„Antje gave us our dog back.”

Antje gave us our dog back. Nero was barking at everyone and everything and I tried different things and methods and didn’t know anymore what to do. Until I met Antje. He stayed with Frank and Jamie for 3 weeks while Antje worked on him, and on me. We both regained our trust, in ourselves and in each other. Still working with him daily but such a big difference.

„I had started to hate him.”

I had a boxer who was literally just at the point of turning on me that’s how out of control my situation was. He had no respect, no boundaries and no direction, and was constantly attacking our little dog. I was having to literally pull them apart, and I was afraid to pull his collar in case one day he would turn on me. It really was at that point. I tried everything, in fact the more I tried, the worse it got, the more methods I tried the more confused we became. I fell into the trap of trying to get the dogs to choose an Alfa dog, feeding one before the other trying to make one submissive… It was a nightmare, I felt like I was drowning and couldn’t come up for air, my anxiety was through the roof and so were the poor dogs. We’ve had a lot of dogs and we are not silly people, it’s just this boy had a very different attitude to what we were used to and had very little in fact no self control at all and I just could not read him. In fact! Very sad to say I had him so wrong, so much so that the dog I thought he was and his reasons for doing the things he did were so wrong and I had actually started to hate him. I knew I had to get help. I was eventually recommended someone by a friend who deals with foster/pound dogs. After just one meeting I was already feeling in control and at last like there was a solution. Only half way through our training it was like having a different dog. And not one fight since! Antje Ehlebracht is who was recommended to me and she is awesome, if you’re willing to work hard and put in the effort you will not be disappointed. I cannot praise this woman enough, she`s simply amazing! The fate of my boy was not looking good at all! My dogs could finally relax and enjoy their life without having to worry about all these human problems. Best thing you can do: Keep calm and call Antje! You will not regret it and you dog deserves it! xx We both regained our trust, in ourselves and in each other. Still working with him daily but such a big difference.

„Never looked  back. Five Stars!”

We had rescued a puppy from Akira, that morphed into a rather large Belgium Shepherd. It was apparent that we needed direction and guidance with her, as off leash she was disobedient and unruly. Antje was recommended, and we have not looked back. Then embarking on a second round of training as we rescued another beast!! She makes it look all so easy, and with a lot of work from you, it works. She calls it as it is, no excuses, no exceptions with a guarantee that at the end of it all you will have a calmer, more respectful friend. Thank you x Five Stars! „Fantastic job.”

Antje the dog behaviourist did a fantastic job with our dog Grace from the shelter. Grace was hyper and overactive, only listened if she got a treat, even with walks on the lead. Followed you everywhere and kept an eye on where you were. Grace spent four weeks away from home for training with Antje. It's still a dog that needs clarity but Grace listens well now, is calm, doesn't constantly demand attention but is also now very relaxed on her cushion. Walks relaxed on the lead. We recommend everyone go to Antje if you have a dog with behavioural problems.

“Enjoyable walks”

Happy to share our success under Antje’s guidance. One of our dogs always had problems with other dogs on the walk. Antje helped us to build a good relationship with our dogs and to communicate with them properly. With the result that they started to trust us and, on the walks, as well. They are now more focused on us than busy barking at other dogs. We still have our ups and downs, but the walks are definitely more enjoyable!

„Incredible work!”

We cannot express enough how grateful we are for Antje and the incredible work she has done with our three dogs! From the very first session, it was clear that Antje truly understands "dog language." Her deep knowledge and ability to connect with our pets have made a remarkable difference in their behavior and overall well-being. Antje's training methods are effective, and tailored to the individual needs of each dog. She creates a positive environment. It's evident that she is passionate about her work and genuinely cares for each dog she trains. If you are looking for someone who understands dogs and can help you and your furry friends thrive, we highly recommend Antje!

Vielen Dank, Antje!

„I was pregnant. We wanted to be in charge.”

I would recommend Antje in a heartbeat to anyone who would want training / reconditioning/education/behavioural therapy for their dogs. I have known Frank and Jamie at VIP for years and initially sent my two dogs there for daycare. Then we decided to get a guard dog in the form of a Boerboel, and I was 6 months pregnant at the time. Knowing that these dogs can be stubborn and strong, we wanted to be in control. So we decided to approach Frank and Jamie who recommended sessions with Antje at VIP Dog Hotel. With the idea that we wanted all the dogs to know the rules around the baby - to know what was allowed in terms of distances kept, general behaviour expected of them around the house. Antje came up with sessions and ideas to achieve this. The dogs caught on fast and with regular training sessions - both at VIP and also at our house, and with work persistence we achieved a very well behaved group of family dogs. It wasn`t actually training the dogs only; a large part was re-setting my own way of thinking and doing (I did more training than the dogs). I did not realise how many mistakes I would make and how many mixed signals I would send - so I had to work hard to correct myself. Fast forward a few years later - we adopted a Cane Corso, Leia, which in the process of being rehomed received behavioural therapy and rehab for aggression: Antje again spent a lot of time and work helping this dog who was very confused - by the time we adopted her, she was a totally transformed animal! She has settled in very well - with the other three dogs as well as the children thanks to also having learned the same rules as the other dogs - she knows what is expected and behaves accordingly. I did more sessions with Antje before adoption to introduce the dogs and make sure the transition was as smooth as possible. We also did regular sessions and training around town - so that Leia would be used to every day life like noise , people, traffic… Antje also accompanied us to the vet on several occasions - I wanted Leia to be comfortable and calm in a Vet surgery environment - having seen how many dogs seem to panic when they step inside a practice. It was positive experiences which have grounded her now and we have a very easy time whenever we need to go to the vet. Antje has a lot of experience and was able to point out the character traits , signs to look out for and things to learn about Leia’s personality - as I do not know the Cane Corso breed it was also a learning curve for me. I am very thankful to Antje for all the time and effort spent on helping us to work to get the best fur family you could dream of. If you follow instructions and you do as instructed or recommended it works. I would recommend and DO often recommend her as well as Frank and Jamie at VIP dog hotel in Benissa.

„Happiest dog owners in the world!”

After receiving advice from the owners of VIP Dog Hotel, we started dog training with our former shelter dog Jack. There, we met Antje, a dog behaviorist, and to be honest, she didn’t train Jack, she trained us. She taught us how to read Jack and communicate with him without words or commands. We continued the training at home, and now Jack is the best dog ever. He is easy to handle, responds to a single call, and is social with strangers when we let him know it’s okay. Today, everyone who knows Jack loves him, and he makes us the happiest dog owners in the world!

„Now we have the best dog”

I'd waited a long time to get a dog and when the time was eventually right it still took two years to persuade my partner. As a reward for seeing sense I let him choose our rescue dog. It didn't take long before he'd gone gooey over an 18mths old labrador in a rescue centre near Alicante. Buddy had a lovely friendly nature, and he fitted into our home and our hearts almost immediately. What could possibly go wrong??? The problems started when we tried to take him out for walks on the lead. He would freak out every time he saw another dog. I was pulled in front of so many cars I began to suspect that he wanted to kill me. We searched the internet, other dog owners, books, dog socialising groups, everywhere to get advice. None of it worked. We got more and more frustrated and Buddy got more and more confused. Because he was so strong and impulsive I began to be fearful of taking him out on my own. So I would walk along with him and my partner, offering advice.... strangely it was not always appreciated… Where was this lovely dream of the three of us taking relaxing strolls together? What were we to do? To give him up would break our hearts. One man I met on a dog walk (by met I mean being dragged 20 meters by Buddy to get to the man’s dog), told me his dog always came when called. He was fitted with a collar that gave him electric shocks if he disobeyed. Oh God! Was it going to come to that? I was very close to tears most days. A friend who is a dog walker, said she would ask her online dog group if anyone knew anyone really good, and Antje was recommended. The first session lasted 4 hours whilst she assessed him, she said he would probably take a few sessions and I honestly didn't think that was possible. But she gave me hope and we did EVERYTHING she said to the best of our ability. And now with have the best dog. He makes the right decisions most of the time and is a pleasure to have. All this was achieved with fun, positive reinforcement, and a lot of sausage. I can not recommend Antje enough, can’t thank her enough for the dog we now have. We will always be very, very grateful to her.

„Jimbo: Back on track mit Antje”

Danke, Antje.

Jimbo before aggression therapy

„He had used up 3 Trainers”

In May 2020, during lockdown, we decided to adopt a rescue dog. After much internet searching we found Happy, a 3 year old Blue Heeler/Ratanero cross. We were told he was somewhat shy, but got on well with people. On first meeting we fell for him and decided to adopt him there and then without hesitation, seeing as both of us have experience with rescue dogs, we regarded ourselves as good judges of doggie character! After a couple of days settling in, Happy started to show his true self, being possessive of objects and space and showing aggression with little or no warning. He was very unpredictable with other dogs and people. We contacted the shelter for advice and were given a name of a trainer. By June 2020, Happy must have nipped most of our friends, we put it down to the fact that he needed sometime to settle. When we went out, we were on constant alert, especially if an elderly person or large dogs were in sight, which he seemed to take a particular dislike to. In total Happy used up three trainers and around 30 hours of sessions. On the formers advice, we adapted our interaction with him, used a muzzle in public, changed his collar to a harness, changed his lead, his diet, tried valerian tablets and CBD oil. You name it we tried it. Whatever the trainers told we followed. Happy improved over time, however he was still prone to obsessive protective behavior at home and unpredictable aggression outside. One day, whilst having a beer in a café, I turned to my partner and said isn’t this lovely, to have Happy looking so relaxed. As I finished the sentence, Happy darted and nipped an elderly man on the ankle as he was passing. We were horrified and apologised profusely, which became something of a habit, as Happy continued to dart at people and attack other dogs. We were hypervigilant at all times when away from home. Things came to a head in May 2021, when Happy bit one of our friends badly on the leg. Regretfully, we decided that we couldn’t cope with his behavior any longer, and arranged to return him to the shelter the next day. It was made clear to us that it would be very difficult to find Happy a home given his biting history. It was an awful night, thinking of what would happen to Happy when back at the shelter. As we were packing his things the next morning we had a call from the shelter, one of the volunteers there had a dog with similar issues who was helped by a therapist. They asked if, as a last resort, whether we would consider trying this lady. We said yes, and in fact were relieved, as it was a last minute reprieve for Happy. The therapist was Antje, based at the VIP dog hotel in Benissa. When we contacted them, Frank was very supportive, and we sent some videos of Happy “in action” for Antje to view. Two days later we had an assessment session. As soon as we met Antje and Frank we felt comfortable with their approach to Happy’s rehabilitation. After 2 hours of assessing Happy (and us I suppose!), Antje explained that she thought she could correct Happy’s behavior. This would involve at least two weeks of „Board & Behave Boot Camp” where he would stay at the VIP hotel and Antje would work intensively with him daily. Whist our boy was at boot camp we received daily updates with videos of his progress. We couldn’t believe that after a few days he was relaxed and playful in a group with 10 or so other dogs, as he was always so anti-social. After 3 weeks with Antje we had a telephone briefing where Antje explained her understandíng of Happy’s story, based on what we knew of his unfortunate past and the characteristics of his breed. This made his behavior a lot more understandable to us and we could see the logic of her approach to correcting his negative behaviors. Moreover, she made it clear that we too would have to change the way we behave with Happy. We had very clear instructions on how to handle Happy and were provided with enrichment strategies to use to keep Happy happy. Also she discovered Happy’s kryptonite (peanut butter!). When we collected him, we noticed a dramatic change. He was calmer and self-controlled, and would look to us for guidance in situations where he would have previously lunged instinctively. We now enjoy his company much more and feel relaxed when he interacts with our friends and family. He is very much a work in progress and has had a few wobbles in the few weeks since we have had him back. He is no angel, nor we want him to be, but he has changed markedly. Thanks to Antje we feel we finally understand him, know what he needs from us, and what his role in our partnership should be. The moral of this story is never give up on your dog. We believe Antje worked very hard with Happy to get him to where he is and Frank’s care and compassion paid dividends. This story is not an advert for the VIP hotel or Antje, but we sincerely believe that without their help we wouldn’t have been able to keep a dog that makes us happy and enriches our life. We would have no hesitation in recommending them.

„Antje weiß einfach, was sie tut!”

Antje weiß einfach, was sie tut.

„Back in control!”

Antje changed our education of the dogs completely. We did not really have control over them. Our oldest boy, Frits, a male Cane corso, was an easy dog, he only would grumble when the other one, a young female Boerboel named Odette got too close. We thought this was fine and Frits would not harm her or us. Antje showed us the opposite and so we started working with zero tolerance for aggression. Just a few small advices put us back in control of our dogs and Frits is now often close to Odette and just turns his head and ignores her.

“We are very happy!”

Antje is a woman who is very passionate about her work. We have had our dogs for a month interned with Antje for training. She knows the language of the dogs and knows exactly how to deal with them. For me and my husband it was a very special experience. We learned a lot from her and got a better relationship with our dogs. We are very happy!
